Some areas are as ancient as they were a millennium ago, while some are as modern as they come. Kyoto is its own, unique, beautiful world. With over two thousand religious landmarks, Kyoto is one of the best preserved cities in Japan.
For a thousand years, Kyoto was the imperial capital of the country, and over the centuries, the city has maintained its old-style architecture and its many ancient traditions. Today, it is a city almost completely out of place in time.
There are myriad things to do in the city, but I love even the simple pleasures. Walking through the old town, traversing the narrow concrete bridges that span small running rivers. Add a sunset and flowering cherry blossoms, and it's just heaven.
